So this cat came up to me the other day and he say
"hey man I heard that you play some music but I was kinda wondering what kind of music do you do?"
And I said
"Man, you know, it's really a whole mix of different shit"
"It's a melting pot culture, I think I'm just chewing the stew"
It's a melting pot culture and I'm just chewing the stew
A troubadour paperboy giving you news
Folk, Rock, Reggae, Psycadelic, Punk, Blues
With Tunes about Love, Loss, Traveling and Booze
And he says
"Alright man, I get what you're doing here. You're trying not to define yourself by any normal standard definitions of musical categorizations and shit. But just tell me who you're listening to man. What kind of tunes you dig, where you get your style from, where you're inspiration comes from?
And I say
"Oh you want to hear where my inspiration comes from?"
And he says
"Yeah man, I want to know what inspires you."
And I say
"Alright man, I guess I'll tell you what inspires me"
All the things that I see
And the air that I breath
And the love that I give
And all the love that I receive
To the people that leave
And the ones that deceive
And the ones that I hurt
And the ones I relieve
And he says
"Really? Really, that's what you're gonna give me? I'm trying to tell people what kind of music you play. I'm trying to figure out who you are man. Come on. So I'm just gonna ask you as blatantly as I can see, as I can ask you Paul Monjee..."
So he says to me
"Just tell me who do you sound like?"
And I said to him, I said "What?"
And he says "Who do you sound like?"
And I get a little grin up on my face and I say
"What man? I can't hear you over the music"
And he says
"Come on man just tell me who you sound like!"
And my grin turns into a smile
showing my teeth about
and I say
"Man, I don't even know what the hell you're talking about"
And he says
"Man, would you just please for the love of god, tell me who the fuck you sound like!!!"
And I said
"Alright man, I'm gonna tell you who I sound like, right now."
"I sound like me"
"I sound like me"
"Yeah, I sound like me"
"I sound like me"
It's a melting pot culture
And I'm just chewing the stew
I'm a troubadour paperboy
